Join us for a sculpture demo held live via ZOOM from artist, Maria Willison’s studio. Maria has spent the past year working on a bas relief series called “Extraordinary Women”. The series is comprised of portraits of strong women in history (some living) that deserve recognition for their accomplishments such as Selma Burke, Junko Tabei, Lozen, Mary Ann Shadd, Ada Lovelace, and Augusta Savage. Maria is planning on completing 25-50 portraits which will be incorporated into an installation that the viewer can walk through “so people feel that they couldn’t move forward without all of the amazing work these women accomplished for us.”

During this demo, Maria will be working on a portrait of Augusta Savage, an African American figurative sculptor who was part of the Harlem Renaissance. Maria will also talk about her process, materials, and inspiration. Plenty of time will be left for Q & A.
