Bas-relief sculptures are a sculptor’s link between two dimensions and three dimensions. Bas-relief, a French term meaning “low relief” is a kind of carving or sculpture in which the figures and forms are raised a few inches from a flat background to give a three-dimensional effect. Bas-relief can be found in many applications including fine art, architecture and the coins in your pocket. In this 5 week class, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of this beautiful and classical technique.
